IT Department FAQs

Here you will find some frequently asked questions about the DeVry Network as well as some common solutions to your computing problems.

  • When can I use the Lab?
    The labs are open from 7:30 am to 5 pm. You may use the lab anytime during those hours provided that a class does not occupy it. The first CIS lab is open after 5 Pm for walk ins.

  • What kind of software is on the computers?
    Most of the computers have the entire Microsoft Office Suite including Publisher and Visio. But for a complete description see the Computer Configuration Sheet.

  • What kind of hardware is in the computers?
    The computers are Gateways, most of which are running Intel Pentium III's, with 256MB RAM, 16MB video card, 20GB hard drives, and extras. For more info see the specification sheet.

  • Who should I talk to if there is a problem with a computer?
    Contact your lab manager immediately, and they will contact the Help Desk or Systems. Please do not attempt to service the computer yourself.

  • How do I connect my laptop to the podium and the overhead projector?
    There is a document that describes this process which should accompany all the over head projectors. But if it is missing please see the Help Desk for another copy.

  • May I save my work to the computers in the lab?
    No, you may not save your work to the computer. You can save it to a zip disk.

For the following common computer problems:

  • If your monitor has strange color variations in places, press the circular button in the center of the monitor rotate the button until an upside-down 'U' with a slash through it is highlighted and it says DEGAUSS, then press the button again. Following the refreshing of your screen rotate the button until 'EXIT' is highlighted and press the button for the last time.

  • If you cannot connect to the network, check to make sure that you are logged on the domain, that you network cable is plugged into both your computer and the wall and that where the network cable is plugged into your computer there is a flashing light.

  • If you cannot save to a floppy or zip disk make sure that they are not write protected.

  • If you find that you have a problem not listed above, please call the HelpDesk at Extension 3008. We will contact you within a 24 hour period.

The equipment that DeVry Seattle uses in the electronics lab has been purchased from Agilent Technologies, which was formerly the electronics division of Hewlett-Packard.
